Rhema Ogele Named Big Sky Player of the Week, First Viking in Four Seasons to Earn Honor

FARMINGTON, Utah — Rhema Ogele became the first Portland State women's basketball player in four seasons to be named Big Sky Conference Player of the Week Tuesday, after she helped lead the Vikings to a 72-61 road victory over Fresno State last week.

Ogele recorded a double-double in the victory, which came after an earlier win over Seattle U – 75-68 on Nov. 25 – to give the Vikings their first back-to-back victories of the season. Ogele finished with 19 points on 8-of-13 shooting from the floor to go with 10 rebounds and three assists in the win over Fresno State.

Ogele's performance sparked the Vikings to shoot a season-high 57.1 percent (28-of-49) from the floor against a Fresno State team that had been undefeated at home coming into the game. The Vikings shot 50 percent or better in every quarter, including 60 percent in both the second and third quarters when they built as much as a 20-point lead against the Bulldogs.

Five of Ogele's game-high 10 rebounds came on the offensive end, leading the Vikings to a 12-to-8 advantage in second-chance points. Additionally, the Vikings won the overall rebounding battle behind Ogele, 28-to-26. The Vikings have won the rebounding battle in three of Ogele's four appearances this season, while they lost it in both of her absences.

For the season, Ogele now has two double-doubles in her four appearances, matching her career total coming into what's her junior year. Ogele is also averaging career bests for points (14.0) and rebounds (6.3) per game, while shooting a career-best 64.1 percent from the floor.

Ogele and the Vikings will now go for three wins in a row Saturday, when they face in-state Pac-12 program University of Oregon at 2 p.m. in Eugene.
