The Portland State Golf team will shoot for good health and good scores when it plays at the Eagle Invitational next Monday and Tuesday in Spokane. The Vikings take part in the 54-hole event to wrap up their brief fall season and will expect to have a full complement of players throughout.
 
Due to illnesses, the Vikings have had five players eligible for scoring in just two of the six tournament rounds played so far this fall. The inability to have a throw-out score in the other four rounds has trended the Vikings a little higher in scoring. However, with a 307.2 team scoring average in those six rounds the Vikings are ahead of last year's pace (307.4) and far ahead of two years ago (310.8).
 
The four returning Vikings from last season should have good memories of the Eagle Invitational from last season. PSU placed a season-best third among nine teams posting a season-best 900 total over three rounds at Indian Canyon Golf Course.
 
Among the 11 teams participating in this season's Eagle Invitational, eight are members of the Big Sky Conference, which creates a lot of value in the competition for the Vikings.
 
All six Viking players have posted solid scores in the first two tournaments this fall. Freshman Cynthia Valerie Ong leads the team with a 76.00 scoring average. Sophomore Payten Shimizu had back-to-back strong rounds at the Pat Lesser-Harbottle Invitational and is scoring at 76.33.
 
Senior Mariana Garcia Rosette has seen her scoring improve by more than a stroke a round over last year at 76.67.
 
Tannica Porter finally got back into competition last week. Competing in her first stroke-play event in nearly a year, the Viking junior had a bumpy first round then posted back-to-back 74s. In just four tournaments last year, she led the Vikings with a 75.00 scoring average.
 
Freshman Momo Udom and sophomore Bayler Brundage have also put up good scoring rounds with 73s in the season-opening tournament.

This will be the final fall tournament for the Vikings. There are five tournaments scheduled for the spring with a potential sixth tournament to be added.
