Vikings Fall to Ducks 4-0

Box Score EUGENE, Ore. – The Portland State women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season this afternoon, falling to the University of Oregon 4-0 in Eugene.
 
The Vikings fell to 1-1 overall while the Ducks improved to 1-0 to start the season.
 
Oregon took the opening point from Portland State, pulling off two doubles victories to begin the match. Makoto Ohara and Nika Beukers nearly pulled off a win at No. 3 before ultimately falling to Karin Young and Myah Petchey 7-6 (5). Masha Ponomareva and Capu Sanoner battled Sophie Luescher and Ares Teixido Garcia to a 6-6 tie before their match went unfinished.
 
Playing to a clinch, Oregon ended things early with a trio of singles wins. Ponomareva, Sanoner and Ohara's matches all went unfinished as the Ducks secured wins in the No. 3-5 spots.  
 
The Vikings will return to action in Eugene on Saturday to take on Seattle at noon.
