FARMINGTON, Utah – The Portland State women's soccer team was picked eighth in this year's Big Sky Preseason Coaches' poll, the conference announced on Thursday.
The Vikings, who finished last season 4-10-2 (2-4-2 BSC), received 14 points to edge ninth-place pick Idaho State (10).
Last season's regular-season champion Northern Colorado led the poll with 61 points, including six first-place votes. Montana was picked second after receiving 54 points and two first-place votes. Weber State rounded out the top three with 51 points and one first-place vote.
Sixth-year head coach Katie Burton will lead a 28-man squad that features 16 returners from last season. Among the returners are 2021 Honorable Mention All-Big Sky selections Sienna Higinbotham and Lucy Quinn. Two transfers and ten freshmen will make their debuts with the Vikings this fall.
The Vikings will unofficially kick off their season this afternoon in an exhibition matchup with British Columbia at Hillsboro Stadium (1 p.m.). They will host San Francisco in the season opener at Hillsboro Stadium on Thursday, August 18 (6 p.m.).
