PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State women's tennis team will close out its 2022 home slate on Sunday, April 10 against Eastern Washington at the Tualatin Hills Babette Horenstein Tennis Center (11 a.m.).
The Vikings are 7-10 overall and 2-4 in Big Sky play, while the Eagles are 3-10 overall and 2-3 in conference action.Â
Sunday marks the Viking's first match in two weeks after losing two road duals to Pacific (Calif.) and Sacramento State to conclude the month of March.
Freshman Mariajose Hernandez Coronado leads the Vikings with a 9-6 singles record, earning wins at the five and six positions. After clinching the Viking's 4-3 victory over Idaho on March 21,
Nika Beukers will look to build on a 7-8 overall record in singles play.
Capu Sanoner and
Makoto Ohara will also head into Sunday with momentum, both having won two of their last three matches.Â
EWU will face a dominant Vikings doubles lineup that boasts an 11-4 conference record. With the help of two undefeated duos, PSU has secured the opening point in all but one Big Sky match this season.
With a 10-2 record at flight one, Sanoner and Beukers haven't surrendered a match since their 7-5 loss at Boise State on March 5. A Beukers' win on Sunday would tie the program record for individual doubles victories in a single season, which stands at 15. Rees and Hernandez Coronado have an undefeated record against Big Sky foes, possessing a team-best 11-2 record.
Vikings senior
Jacinta Milenkoski will be honored following the conclusion of Sunday's match. Milenkoski has been a member of the Vikings for three seasons and ranks among the top 20 in both singles and doubles career wins. The Sydney, Australia native has posted seven No. 1 singles wins during her career, which ranks seventh all-time.Â
SCOUTING EASTERN WASHINGTON
After a 8-9 finish in 2021, the Eagles were picked third, one spot ahead of Portland State in the Big Sky Preseason Coaches Poll. They currently sit 3-10 overall and 2-3 in Big Sky action following four consecutive losses, three against conference opponents. Their last win occurred on March 6 against Montana State (5-2).
The Vikings are in search of their first victory over EWUÂ since 2015. Following a 7-0 Portland State sweep seven years ago, the Eagles have won six-straight matches to lead the all-time series 21-6. Â
