Cameron Parker Comes Home To Play At Portland State, Signs With The Vikings

The basketball odyssey of Cameron Parker has come full circle as he has signed a grant-in-aid agreement with Portland State Basketball for the 2022-23 season.

The 6-2 guard is transferring to Portland State from the University of Montana. He will have senior eligibility this fall.

"Cameron has an elite ability to pass the ball and tremendous vision," said Viking Head Coach Jase Coburn. "He has great Division I experience, including leading the Big Sky in assists the past two seasons. We are proud to bring home one of our own from the area.

"With the pace we want to play, having a decision-maker like Cameron should greatly impact our offense in the coming season."

Originally from Beaverton, where he attended Jesuit High School, Parker moved on to attend Tilton School in New Hampshire, a college prep school, then played two seasons at Sacred Heart College and two seasons at the University of Montana. Due to the NCAA's COVID-waiver season of 2020-21, Parker has one season of eligibility remaining and he will complete it on the Park Blocks.

One thing remains true no matter where Parker has been; he has always been a great distributor of the basketball. Parker averaged 25.5 points and 6.1 assists per game as a senior at Jesuit, earning Metro League Player of the Year honors. He set school records for assists in a game and a season at Tilton, then averaged 6.9 assists and 7.8 assists in his two years at Sacred Heart. Parker set an NCAA single-game record with 24 assists in a win over Pine Manor on Dec. 1, 2019. He was named to the Northeastern Conference All-Rookie team after breaking the NEC single-season freshman assists record with 213.

At Montana, Parker averaged 8.4 points and 4.7 assists per game in 2020-21. This past season he averaged 9.1 points and 4.5 assists per game. Each season he led the Big Sky Conference in assists.

His four-year career averages at the Division I level are 8.2 points and 5.8 assists per game (109 career games).
