Lynn Kennedy Accepts Head Coaching Job at McNeese State; National Search Underway for Next Viking Head Coach

Lynn Kennedy has accepted the head coaching position at McNeese State, ending a six-year tenure on the Park Blocks as head coach of the Vikings.

Kennedy grew the Viking program from four wins in his first year at Portland State to Big Sky tournament champions four years later in 2018-19. The 2018-19 team set Big Sky-era program records for wins (25) and conference wins (14), and became just the second team to qualify for the NCAA tournament since the Vikings became a Division I program before the 1996-97 season.

"I thank Coach Kennedy for all he has done to build a championship program at Portland State University," Portland State athletic director Valerie Cleary said of Kennedy. "He and his staff have truly set the bar for what it means to be Vikings and how to win on and off the court. I wish him, his wife Amy, and their boys the best of luck on their next adventure."

Chelsey Gregg, who served as associate head coach under Kennedy for the past three seasons and an assistant coach before that, will take over as interim head coach. A national search for the next Portland State head coach is underway.
