Box Score EUGENE – The Portland State women's tennis team fell 4-2 in its second dual match of the season in a non-conference matchup against the University of Idaho on Saturday.
The Vikings are 0-2 after opening the 2021 season this weekend while the Vandals move to 1-2.
Portland State fell behind early after three consecutive doubles losses leading to a 1-0 Vandals advantage heading into singles play.
Freshman,
Capu Sanoner was pulled from singles play due to injury, causing last minute changes to the Vikings lineup.
"We had a big challenge today and had a situation where every girl had to step up in a big way due to the absence of Capu at the No. 2 spot," head coach
Kyle Russell said. "Everyone showed us a fight that we hadn't seen yet this season."
Putting momentum back on PSU's side were two impressive singles showings from the Vikings. Ashely Ramirez, the transfer from Scottsdale, Ariz. secured her second win of the season defeating Idaho's Saffron Dowse 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4 singles.
Junior
Emily Rees dominated her match in the No. 3 spot using a variety of shots to down Maggie Chen 6-0, 6-3.
