Women's Soccer Adds Four in Second Wave of Signees

PORTLAND – Head Coach Katie Burton announced the addition of four new recruits for the 2020 season, bringing her total to nine newcomers for next season.

"We are very excited for these four additions to our already strong 2020 class and can't wait for these four athletes to join our Viking family next fall," said Burton.

The Vikings previously signed five recruits during the early signing period back in November, reloading a roster that lost only three seniors this past year after making the Big Sky tournament for the second time in three seasons.

2020-21 RECRUITING CLASS:

Hailey Green, Defender, 5-8, SO, Folsom, Calif., Folsom Lake College

Before Portland State: Green enters Portland State after spending last season at Folsom Lake College where she helped her team to a 15-win season and advanced to the second round of the NorCal Regional Tournament. Playing in the backline, she recorded one assist on the season in the Falcons' 4-0 win over Diablo Valley. A product of Christian Brothers High School, Green was named team MVP during her freshman season and served as varsity captain three times. She also performed well in the classroom, earning Honor Roll in three seasons.

From Coach Burton: "Hailey will add depth in our backline as an outside back or center back. She is athletic and dangerous getting forward in the attack."

Fatima Jimenez, Forward, 5-6, FR, Salem, Ore., West Salem HS

Before Portland State: Jimenez joins the Vikings after a successful high school and club career, competing at West Salem High School and the Capital FC Timbers. At West Salem, Jimenez led her team to a league title her senior year and was named First-Team All-League her junior and senior seasons. She also named to the All-Academic Team during her sophomore and junior years. Competing for her club team, she helped her squad win the State Cup Finals for the fifth time this past year.

From Coach Burton: "Fatima will add pace on the wing and is extremely confident going one on one and getting endline for service and is dangerous in and around the box."

Sam Oliveira, Forward, 5-4, JR, Porterville, Calif., Peninsula College

Before Portland State: Oliveira transfers to Portland State after two seasons at Peninsula College where she helped her team to back-to-back NWAC North Region Championships. During her freshman season, her team advanced past the regional championships to win the NWAC title. Oliveira was named to the NWAC North Region All-Academic team during the 2019 season and earned President's list her final year at Peninsula. She is a two-time North Region All-Star selection and was named Most Valuable Player as a sophomore after leading the league with 23 goals scored.

While at Harmony Magnet Academy, Oliveira played three sports including soccer, tennis, and basketball, earning Offensive Player of the Year as a sophomore. She also earned honor roll all four years of high school.

From Coach Burton: "Sam is an experienced junior college transfer who we have had our eye on for two years. She is quick and dynamic with her runs and has a knack for the goal."

Jenna Ruano, Goalkeeper, 5-8, FR, Downey, Calif., Warren HS

Before Portland State: Ruano comes to Portland State after excelling at Warren High School and with the Fullerton Rangers and Slammers EGSL club teams. At Warren, she lettered four years in soccer while earning First-Team All-League during her junior and senior seasons. She led her team to four straight San Gabriel Valley League Championships and was nominated for All-CIF Southern Goalkeeper. While playing for Slammers, she helped her team to an SDSL Championship during the 2018-19 campaign while earning back-to-back OC World Cup Champions with the Fullerton Rangers ('14, '15).

From Coach Burton: "Adding depth to our goalkeepers with Jenna joining the squad, she and Enya will have a very competitive training environment vying for the starting spot between the posts. She is hard-working, vocal and has very quick reflexes."
