Vikings Take Down League Leaders, Beat Weber State 2-1

With a triumphant score of 2-1, the Portland State women's soccer team knocked off first-place Weber State on Thursday afternoon at Hillsboro Stadium.

Elle Frazier put the Vikings up 1-0 when she snuck the ball past the Wildcats goalkeeper in the 28th minute, marking her second goal in the past three matches. Alexi Cataldi slipped the ball to Frazier after a pass from Aliayha Saldana.

The Vikings (3-9-0, 1-2-0) kept up an offensive fight for the next 15 minutes. They scored their second goal when a corner kick from Grace Sarabia forced an own goal in the 44th minute.

The Wildcats (7-6-2, 3-1-1), down 2-0, came into the second half with a vengeance. Just 26 seconds into the half, Lily Blum etched one by goalkeeper Finley Crabtree, putting Weber State on the board. They nearly had a second one at 57:14 when the ball bounced off the crossbar, but it miraculously stayed out.

Weber State pumped the gas in the second half, outshooting Portland State 7-1 in the first 20 minutes and 22-12 over the entire match. The Vikings' defense battled hard, though. With seven minutes left in the game, Crabtree had an impressive sequence of saves, sticking with the ball and keeping out every shot that came her way.

The Vikings will next take on Idaho State (2-7-4, 0-2-2) on Sunday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. at Hillsboro Stadium.
