SPOKANE, Wash. —
The Portland State women's tennis team split four singles matches against Big Sky rival Eastern Washington Saturday, the second day of the Bulldog Invite, hosted by Gonzaga University.

The Vikings and Eagles squared off in four different consolation matches Saturday, with sophomore transfer Eszter Zador and junior Ashley Knecht winning for the Vikings, while Zoey Nelson and Rachel Swindell won for the Eagles.

Zador took a pair of tight sets against Eastern Washington's Faye Worrall in winning her match 6-3, 6-4. The win marked Zador's first as a Viking, and came over an opponent in Worrall who competed at lines one and two in singles last season.

Zador will now compete in the consolation final of the Blue Singles Draw Sunday, where she'll face off against Domonique Garley of host Gonzaga at 11:30 a.m. (PT).

Sunday will be a busy day for Zador, who will also compete in the consolation final of the Bulldog Doubles Draw with partner Brianna Thompson. Zador and Thompson beat Jovana Kuljanin and Wiktoria Nosek 6-4 in the consolation semifinals Sunday, and will now face off against Worrall and Nelson of Eastern Washington at 9 a.m. tomorrow.

Knecht, meanwhile, pulled out a three-set win over Moriah Austin, a junior from Eastern Washington in a bonus singles match. Knecht shook off a close second-set loss to Austin to dominate their third set against each other, winning 6-1 to complete a 6-3, 4-6, 6-1 victory.

The Eagles got the better of the Vikings in the other two matches the teams played against each other Saturday, starting with Nelson beating Thompson in the consolation semifinals of the Red Singles Draw. Nelson and Thompson played a couple of tight sets against each other, but Nelson pulled out both to win 6-3, 6-4.

Swindell also beat Portland State freshman Gerda Upeniece in the consolation semifinals of the White Singles Draw, winning 6-1, 6-1.

Sophomore newcomer Alli Valk was the lone Viking still alive in a singles main draw Saturday, as she faced off against Nosek of Boise State in the semifinals of the Blue Singles Draw. Valk, who won in a third-set tiebreaker over Eastern Washington's Stephanie Broussard yesterday, went to three sets again against Nosek after leveling their match with a 6-4 win in the second set. Nosek, who played a three-set match as well yesterday, got the better of Valk in the deciding set, however, as she ran away with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 win.

Valk will play a third-place match in the Blue Singles Draw against Seattle's Hannah Gianan at 11 a.m. Sunday.
