Forsee's Maestro Performance Leads Vikings to 6-1 Exhibition Win over Fraser Valley

BOX SCORE - PDF | HTML

HILLSBORO, Ore. —
If only this one counted. If it had, then senior midfielder and 2016 All-Big Sky first-team selection Katie Forsee would have undisputed claim to the best individual match in the history of the Portland State women's soccer program.

Forsee scored four goals and assisted on a fifth to lead the Vikings to a 6-1 exhibition win over the University of Fraser Valley Tuesday at Hillsboro Stadium. If the match had counted, Forsee would have broken the single-match records for:

• Fastest hat trick (25 minutes)
• Most goals (4)
• Most points (9)

As it stands, it's one hell of a promising dry run for Friday's season opener at cross-town rival University of Portland.

Forsee scored the opening goal in the eighth minute after running on to a long ball up the left side of the field from redshirt sophomore defender Maxine Nagramada. Forsee fielded the ball ahead of the defense, drawing out the goalkeeper, who she then beat with a ball from 15 yards out.

Forsee's second and third goals came in quick succession, as she tripled the Vikings' advantage with goals in the 23rd and 25th minutes. Forsee scored her second goal when she controlled a loose ball among a group of three defenders and shot it past UFV's goalkeeper to the far post. Meanwhile, Forsee scored her third goal from distance, hitting it from thirty yards out to put the Vikings up 3-0.

Three goals in 25 minutes would have gone down as the Vikings' first first-half hat trick in program history, if Tuesday's match had counted. Megan Plinski owns the fastest hat trick from the start of a game in a counting match, as she recorded a hat trick in 46:26 against Southern Utah on Sept. 14, 2002.

Forsee's fourth goal came after halftime in the 57th minute, as she controlled a bouncing ball and took a high-arching shot from 30 yards out.

Forsee recorded an assist on the Vikings' fifth goal of the match, as she threw a bouncing ball into sophomore forward Regan Russell, who then finished the play for a goal in the 58th minute.

Freshman forward Megan Cornett scored the Vikings' final goal of the match in the 82nd minute, after the Cascades pulled one back with a goal of their own soon after Russell's. Fellow freshman Teá Poore sent the ball up to Cornett on the play, and Cornett dribbled the ball to the center before sending a hard shot on goal to the upper part of the net.

The Vikings hadn't scored six goals in a match since scoring seven in a neutral-site match against New Mexico State on Sept. 1, 2013. That match also featured the last counting hat trick by a Portland State player, as Eryn Brown recorded three goals and an assist in the match to set the single-match record for points at eight – a record Forsee would have broken if Tuesday's match had counted.

Tuesday's match of course didn't count, however, and so the Vikings will just have to hope for a similar performance when their season opens in earnest Friday at cross-town rival University of Portland at 7 p.m.
