West Linn, OR - In a battle of Portland State golfers, newcomer Hannah Swanson knocked off the veteran, Krissy Peterson, in the quarterfinals of the Oregon Women's Amateur Championship on Saturday morning.

Swanson led by as much as 5-up through 11 holes, but Peterson battled back. The defending Oregon Amateur Champion, Peterson won four of the next six holes to take the match to 18 on a hot day at Oregon Golf Club. The combatants matched with pars on the final hole and Swanson advanced to the semifinals on Saturday afternoon.

In the afternoon semifinal, Swanson's run to the title ended. She was defeated by Gigi Stoll, 2 and 1. 

Swanson, who has transferred to Portland State for the 2017-18 season, knocked off top-seeded Ellen Secor, 1-up, on Friday in the round of 16. The new Viking from Forest Grove was seeded 16th going into match-play competition. 

Peterson, who was seeded eighth, won her first two matches by 4 and 3 scores and had led after all 30 holes of match play. That is until Swanson took control of the quarterfinal, winning holes two and three. A senior this past season at PSU, Peterson placed fifth each of the past two years at the Big Sky Championship and has been an All-Big Sky Conference selection to go with her 2016 Oregon Am title.

Another All-Big Sky Conference Viking, junior-to-be Tara Finigan reached the round of 16 before being knocked out. 

The 36-hole Oregon Women's Amateur Championship final will be played on Sunday starting at 8 a.m. Stoll will play either Kristin Elich or Amanda Jacobs. Oregon Golf Club, located in West Linn, is playing as a 6,032-yard, par 72 course for the championship.
