STOCKTON, Calif. – The bats came alive for the Vikings but they were unable to scrap out a win, falling twice on the second day of action at the Louisville Slugger Tournament hosted by the University of the Pacific in Stockton, Calif.

Portland State (1-13 overall) opened they day with a tough 18-4 loss to East Carolina (11-7) in five innings. The Vikings then outhit Seton Hall 14-5 but still came away with an 8-5 loss in the second game of the day.

The Vikings hit .393 as a team, going 22-for-59 with four doubles and a triple but only scored nine runs between the two games.

Freshman IF
Korina Krueg went 5-for-7 on the day, tallying hits on five consecutive at bats. She scored a run and drove in a run. She tallied her first multi-hit game of the year, going 3-for-3, with an RBI in the loss to East Carolina. She opened the second game with back-to-back hits against Seton Hall with a run scored.

Freshman OF
Marissa Bruno hit .571 (4-for-7) and slugged 1.143 after hitting a triple and a pair of doubles. She tripled and drove in a run against East Carolina before doubling twice and driving in three runs against Seton Hall. She has now hit safely in eight games this season, including the last six.

Senior OF
SheaLee Lindsey extended her current hitting streak to six games, going 2-for-4 on the day with two runs scored and a walk. She singled and scored in both games.

Despite the offensive production, Portland State still struggled in the field and in the pitching circle. The pitching staff allowed 26 runs, 20 earned, on just 16 hits over 10 innings. They struggled to find the plate, walking 11 batters. They also allowed four home runs as opponents hit .340 on the day. Portland State fielders committed four errors, which led to six unearned runs.

Portland State scored three runs in the top of the first inning against East Carolina. The lead did not last long as ECU plated nine runs over the second and third innings to take a 9-3 lead. Lindsey bunted and scored on Bruno's triple in the top of the fourth but a nine-run bottom of the fourth put the game well out of reach and the Vikings fell 18-4 in five innings.

After Seton Hall plated a run in the bottom of the first in game two, the Vikings came right back with four runs in the top of the second inning.
Shae Nelson drove in a run with a single to center with two outs before Bruno doubled to left center with the bases loaded to make it a 4-1 game.

Seton Hall countered with three runs in the bottom of the second and one more in the bottom of the third to go up 5-4. Nelson singled and then was driven in on a
Kaela Morrow single to center to tie the game at 5-5. Seton Hall plated a pair of unearned runs in the bottom of the fourth inning before adding an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth to go up 8-5.

Portland State stranded two runners in scoring position in the top of the fifth inning falling 8-5.
