THE OPENING TIPPortland State faces a daunting task on Saturday night in Ogden: putting a stop to its recent struggles, and doing so in the venue that has been the most challenging in its Big Sky Conference history. The Vikings will face Weber State in a Big Sky game at Dee Events Center.
Following an 88-71 loss at Idaho State on Thursday, the Vikings have lost two in a row, four of five and six their last eight. PSU is now 8-14 for the season, 4-7 in the Big Sky Conference. The Vikings are currently in ninth place.
Meanwhile, Weber State comes off a 63-50 win over Sacramento State, improving its record to 17-7 overall and 9-2 in the Big Sky. The Wildcats are one-half game out of first place.
Weber State is 10-1 at home this season, while the Vikings are just 3-9 on the road. Moreover, PSU is only 2-19 all-time in games at Dee Events Center.

COMING UPThe good news for Portland State is it will play four of its final six regular season games at home. The Vikings begin that stretch by hosting Idaho on Feb. 18, then Eastern Washington on Feb. 20. PSU plays at North Dakota on Feb. 25 and Northern Colorado on Feb. 27. The regular season wraps up with home games against Northern Arizona (Mar. 3) and Southern Utah (Mar. 5).
The Big Sky Conference Tournament runs Mar. 8-12 in Reno, NV. The Vikings are currently in ninth place in the Big Sky. If the tournament were to start today, PSU would face eighth-place Northern Colorado.

Cameron Forte has had a remarkable run of road performances over the past month, putting up five consecutive 20-10 games in the Vikings' last five road contests (including a 20-20 game). He is averaging 27.0 points and 13.8 rebounds and PSU is 2-3 in those games.

• JAN. 14 IN PORTLAND, WSU 73, PSU 58: After 10 lead changes in the first 18 minutes, the Wildcats broke open a close game in the second half, building a 20-point lead and cruising to the win. Weber State out-rebounded the Vikings, 46-30, and had a 15-0 advantage on second-chance points. Joel Bolomboy scored 22 points and grabbed 13 rebounds for WSU. Jeremy Senglin had 21 points.
