SEATTLE, Wash. — Sophomore Sheldon Prince and senior Sarah Dean set a pair of school records Saturday, as the Portland State track and field teams concluded competition at the UW Invitational at Dempsey Indoor.

Prince set a new school record while winning the men's open 400 meters in 48.64 seconds. Prince's time beat the old PSU record by more than a tenth of a second, and qualified him for the Big Sky meet in the event. Additionally, Prince's time would have ranked second in the Big Sky in the indoor 400 entering the weekend. Prince also set a new personal best in the 60 meters, finishing in 7.09 seconds in the prelims.

Dean, meanwhile, broke the school record in the women's mile by just under 1.5 seconds. Dean finished in 4:51.32 in the invitational mile Saturday, well ahead of the old record, which Amber Rozcicha set at 4:52.81 last season. Senior Camelia Mayfield and freshman Cheryn Trapp also set personal bests in the mile, finishing the open mile in 5:05.01 and 5:05.58, respectively, moving them to eighth and ninth all-time in the event at PSU. Sophomore Katherine Hendricks, junior Keikoanne Hollins and freshman Maggie Coleman also set personal bests in the mile, finishing in 5:12.94, 5:15.54 and 5:22.41, respectively.

Besides Prince and Dean, junior Jazmin Ratcliff set a new personal best in the 60-meter hurdles, and tied another PR in the 60 meters Saturday. Ratcliff finished second in the finals of the 60-meter hurdles in 8.52 seconds, a new personal best, and finished sixth in the 60-meter finals in a personal-best-equaling 7.64 seconds. A pair of freshmen set personal records along with Ratcliff, as CeCelia Jackson ran a personal-best 8.65 seconds in the prelims of the 60-meter hurdles, while Genna Settle placed eighth in the finals of the 60 meters in 7.67 seconds. Settle's time in the 60 finals qualified her for the Big Sky meet after she finished .01 seconds out of qualifying in each of the first two meets of the season.

Additionally, freshman Whitney Diggs lowered her Big Sky-leading time in the 400 Saturday, as she finished second in the invitational 400 in 55.38 seconds. Diggs' time stands just a tenth of a second off the PSU record in the 400 meters, and she has now lowered her time at two straight meets following the season-opening UW Indoor Preview on Jan. 18.

A number of PSU athletes set new personal bests Saturday as well, including the Vikings' entire crew in the men's 800 meters and mile. Freshman Nathan Fleck led the Vikings in the 800, finishing in 1:57.64, while fellow freshman Ben Richardson finished in 1:59.13 and sophomore Neil Seibert finished in 2:00.60. Sophomore T-Roy Brown, meanwhile, led the Vikings in the mile, finishing in 4:15.14, while Seibert (4:21.62), freshman Kuba Grzeda (4:27.99), sophomore Jonathan Talik (4:29.41), freshman Jordan Landstrom (4:34.86) and junior Jake Schwartz (4:39.58) all followed with personal bests.

Hendricks and freshman Olivia Loveland set personal bests in the women's 800 meters as well, finishing in 2:25.01 and 2:25.49, respectively, while sophomore Kris Tollefson and freshman Roazena Miller set new personal bests in the 400 meters in 58.90 and 59.93, respectively.

Freshman Kevin Robinson debuted for the Vikings at the meet, running the 60-meter hurdles in 8.75 seconds, and placing 14th in the long jump with a jump of 6-04.25 (1.94m). Fellow freshman Mitchell Gable completed his first heptathlon at PSU as well, finishing eighth with 4,206 points.

Sophomore Sydney Johnson also set a seasonal best in the shot put at 40-01.50 (12.23m) Saturday.
