VANCOUVER, Wash. - The Portland State women's tennis team fell to 3-3 overall in 2013, after the team dropped a 7-0 decision to Gonzaga, at Club Green Meadows, in Vancouver, Wash., on Sunday morning.
 
Portland State found itself in a tight doubles point as the Bulldogs took the early 1-0 lead as doubles team of Marina Todd and Megan Govi lost to Alexandra Tallas and Melanie Yates at the No. 3 position, 8-4.
 
On court two Mandy Mallen and Marti Pellicano fought hard against Samantha Polayes and Isabell Klingert, but came up short to the tune of 8-5.
 
On court one Daria Burobina and Kelsey Frey were entrenched in a battle of their own with Katie Edwards and Kylie Peek, but were forced to discontinue their match due to the doubles point having already been decided.
 
With Gonzaga up 1-0, the momentum carried the Bulldogs through in singles play.
 
Klingert upended Todd at the No. 2 position to give the Bulldogs a 2-0 lead by the score of 6-1, 6-3.
 
Mallen was the next to fall at the No. 3 spot to Klingert, 6-0, 6-1 as Gonzaga improved to 3-0.
 
The match was decided on court four as Frey fell in a hard fought match to Polayes, 6-4, 6-2.
 
Gonzaga swept the rest of its singles matches defeating Pellicano at No. 5, 6-1, 6-4, Burobina at No. 1, 6-4, 6-3, and Govi at No. 6, 6-4, 6-1.
 
With the loss Govi snaps a six match winning streak. She's been impressive between fall season and duals, as she now has 10-5 record in singles play.
 
The Viks will regroup and prepare to play a three match weekend, first traveling to the University of Portland on Friday, Feb. 8, and then playing a double-header at Lewis & Clark College and hosting George Fox later that afternoon. Match times are slated for 1 p.m., 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., respectively.
