Vikings Wrap-Up Season at Home with Two Conference Duals

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State women's tennis team has just one weekend of competition left in the 2012 season. The Vikings host a pair of Big Sky Conference opponents this weekend as they play host to Weber State on Friday at 10 a.m. PDT and then Northern Arizona at 1 p.m. on Saturday. Both duals will be played at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver, Wash.

Saturday's season finale dual against Northern Arizona will run simultaneously with the Portland State men's tennis team's season finale against Northern Arizona. It is the only time this season where the men and women's teams will be on the court at the same time.

The Vikings are coming off a 5-2 loss at the hands of Seattle University last Saturday in Seattle, Wash. Marti and Megan Govi recorded the two singles victories for the Vikings at the No. 3 and No. 4 lines respectively, both in three sets.

Pellicano dropped the first set by a score of 6-4 before bouncing back in the second to win handedly by a score of 6-0. The third set was tougher to put away for Pellicano but she eventually took the match with a 7-5 win in the decisive third set.

Govi picked up her seventh singles victory of season with her three set win Saturday. Govi, like Pellicano, dropped her first set by a score of 6-1. She then took the second set by a score of 6-3 forcing a third set, which she took again by a score of 6-3.

Weber State comes into the weekend 1-19 overall on the season after picking up their lone victory of the season at Eastern Washington, 4-3, on April 7. Brittany Moore has played all but one singles match at the No. 1 line for the Wildcats and has a dual record of 5-14. The Wildcats as a team are 21-99 (.175) in singles matches and 7-55 (.199) in doubles matches. Weber State takes on the University of Portland before facing the Vikings.

The Lumberjacks of Northern Arizona come into this weekend as the second best team in the conference with a 6-1 Big Sky record, they are 8-12 overall. They are coming off a 5-1 victory over Eastern Washington after taking five of the six singles matches having skipped doubles play. Ghizelene Doballah is 8-11 on the season having played all but one match at the No. 1 line. The duo of Hannah Stone and Johanna Vang are 10-6 overall this season in doubles play and 9-5 playing as the No. 2 doubles duo. They are 6-4 in their last 10 matches and 3-2 in Big Sky matches.

The Vikings wrap-up a tough season after compiling a 3-14 record on the season going into the weekend. The season can finish on an up note if the Vikings can break through in conference play and pick up their first conference win this weekend.
