PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State women's tennis team is coming off its first dual win of the season last weekend as it heads to Eugene, Ore. to take on the University of Oregon on Sunday, Feb. 5. The dual is slated to start at 12:00 p.m. at the Student Tennis Center.
Sunday's dual is the second this season against a Pacific-12 Conference opponent this season for the Vikings having started their season against Washington State last Friday.
Portland State went 1-2 over the its first weekend of the season losing to Washington State and Idaho but it picked up its first win of the 2012 campaign with a 4-3 win over Lewis & Clark State College.
The Vikings took the doubles point with the parings of Audrey Farr and
Alexa McDonald and
Nayanatara Vadali and
Emily McClaran wining their doubles matches by scores of 8-2 and 8-6 respectively.
Megan Govi, McDonald and Vadali then took care of business in singles competition winning their matches to give the Vikings the overall dual win.
Oregon is 3-1 so far this season after defeating Portland, Pacific and San Jose State. Their lone loss this season was a 3-4 loss at Santa Clara last Saturday. Before Portland State and Oregon square off on Sunday, Oregon will take on Stanford on Saturday.
Following this weekend in Eugene, The Vikings will open their home schedule on Friday, Feb. 10 against Seattle University. The match is scheduled for 4 p.m. at Club Green meadows in Vancouver, Wash. The Vikings will then host Montana on Sunday, Feb. 11 at 1 p.m. to open conference play.
