LEWISTON, Idaho – The Portland State women's tennis team picked up their first dual win of the season when they defeated Lewis & Clark State College 4-3 Saturday in Lewiston, Idaho.
 
The Vikings started things out on the right foot when they took the best-of-three doubles point to start the dual. Audrey Farr and Alexa McDonald, playing as the second doubles team, won their match 8-2. Nayanatara Vadali and Emily McClaran won 8-6 to take the point.
 
With the Vikings leading the dual 1-0 they took the court for singles play needing to win three matches to take the dual victory.
 
Megan Govi, playing as the Vikings' No. 3 made short work of her match wining in straight sets by scores of 6-3, 6-3 giving the Vikings a 2-0 lead. Farr fell in the No. 1 slot by scores of 6-2, 6-3 bringing the overall dual score to 2-1 in favor of the Vikings.
 
McDonald split sets 4-6 and 6-1 moving in the decisive third set. After losing six games to lose the first set, McDonald won 12 of the next 14 games dropping one game in the second and one in the third winning the third set 6-1.
 
After McDonald won, McClaran fell in straight sets leaving the dual at 3-2 with the Vikings needing one win out of the final two matches to take the dual. Vadali clinched the dual win for the Vikings with a straight set win, 6-3, 6-2.
 
Pellicano then finished her almost three hour match losing in three sets. She won the first set by a score of 6-1 but then fell in the second 7-5 and in the decisive third set by a score of 6-3.
 
The Vikings now stand 1-1 on the season as they head into a dual with a good Idaho team Sunday with the match slated for a 1:00 p.m. in Pullman, Wash.
