PORTLAND, Ore. - Still seeking its first victory of the season, the Portland State men's tennis team will look to break that trend this weekend with matches slated at Lewis & Clark Feb. 4 and versus Gonzaga Feb. 5 at Club Green Meadows, beginning at 9 a.m.
The men traveled both North and South, taking on Cal Poly in Seattle, Wash., at the Huskies Nordstrom Tennis Center. The men played hard in the match, but only
Alex VanDerschelden would walk away with a victory as the men fell 6-1 to the Mustangs.
The following day PSU traveled to Eugene, where the opened the season a week earlier against Oregon, to take on Idaho. The Vikings were unable to overcome the Vandals at Nos. 1-6 and fell 7-0. Senior
Chris Rice played the country's 56th ranked player Marius Cirstea, taking the first set 6-3, but falling 6-1 and 10-4 in the next two.
Lewis & Clark will open its 2011 season Friday against the Vikings at 4 p.m. The Pios have four players returning from last year's team. The Bulldogs are 2-2 this season with losses to the Pac-10's Oregon and Washington. Gonzaga won it's season-opener against SeattleU, 4-3, and snapped consecutive losses with a 5-2 win over Lewis-Clark State.
Portland State will open its Big Sky season against Sacramento State at Club Green Meadows Feb. 11 at 2 p.m. and follow up against SeattleU in Vancouver, Wash., Feb. 12 at 4 p.m.
