OFFICIAL TEAM RELEASE
PORTLAND, Ore. — The Portland State cross country and track & field program will proudly fly the maple leaf later this month as one of their own,
Jalen Marcil, has been selected to represent Canada at the 2022 Pan American Cross Country Cup. Marcil will run on the Canadian U20 women's team at the Pan American Cup, which will take place in Serra, Brazil, on March 27.
Marcil was one of four runners selected for the U20 team, joining 2021 Canadian cross country champion Sadie Sigfstead, who was Villanova's top finisher at the NCAA Cross Country Championships, as well as Caroline Ash and Ivy Bialowas.
Marcil, a native of London, Ontario, put herself in contention for the team when she placed seventh at the 2021 U20 Canadian Cross Country Championships back on Nov. 27, 2021.
Marcil has extensive experience at various Athletics Canada events. In addition to her placement this past fall, she finished 29th at the 2019 edition of the Canadian U20 Cross Country Championships despite being only 16 years old at the time. Additionally, she was the Gold Medalist at the 2020 U18 Athletics Ontario West Cross Country Championships.
Marcil redshirted for the Vikings during this past fall's cross country season, but competed during the 2022 indoor track season. She moved up to sixth all-time in the freshman rankings of the indoor 3,000 meters at Portland State after placing fifth in a 1-5 Viking finish at the Portland Indoor Two on Jan. 23.
The 2022 Pan American Cross Country Cup is an international cross country competition organized by the Association of Panamerican Athletics (APA). It was established in 2015 and includes races for senior and junior (U20) athletes.
