Emma Stolte racked up so many honors throughout her Portland State track & field career she couldn't help but pick up one more on her way out the door. Ten days after her graduation, Stolte received Academic All-District honors Tuesday from the College Sports Communicators (CSC).
The honor comes at the end of a senior season in which Stolte won the Big Sky title in the outdoor 5k – the program's first-ever in that event – earned three all-conference honors (cross country, outdoor 1,500m, outdoor 5k) and broke three school records (indoor 800m, outdoor 1,500m, outdoor 5k).
Academically, Stolte finished her Portland State career with a 4.0 GPA in public health studies. She is a seven-time Academic All-Big Sky selection, on her way to earning an eighth honor.
Stolte is the first Viking women's athlete to receive Academic All-District honors since 2023. That was the year the CSC changed its model to no longer separate all-district honorees into first or second teams. Instead, the honor recognizes all of the nation's top student-athletes who qualify based on their combined performances in their competitive fields and in the classroom.
To qualify academically, a student-athlete must be a sophomore academically and athletically and have at least a 3.50 cumulative GPA. In the case of graduate student-athletes, nominees must have earned a 3.50 GPA as an undergrad and a grad student. Athletically, student-athletes competing in cross country or track & field need to either finish in the top 50 at an NCAA regional competition during the cross country season, or have a top 50 regional ranking in a single event during either the indoor or outdoor track & field season.
Stolte qualified academically with her 4.0 GPA. She qualified athletically after finishing the indoor season ranked in the top 50 of the NCAA west region in the 800 meters (18th), mile (21st) and 3k (25th).
