Vikings Drop Road Match to Kansas State

MANHATTAN, Kan. – The Portland State women's soccer team wrapped up its opening week with a 2-0 loss to Kansas State on Sunday morning at Buser Family Park.

The Vikings fell to 0-1-1 on the year while the Wildcats, who earned a win over Oral Roberts on Thursday evening, improved to 2-0-0.

After 72 minutes of scoreless play, Portland State conceded a pair of late goals to the Wildcats, who maintained steady pressure throughout the match. Kansas State outshot the Vikings 9-2 in the opening 45 minutes and earned six corner kicks during that stretch.

The Wildcats mounted the pressure after halftime, and it finally paid off in the 73rd minute when they broke through to take a 1-0 lead. They added to their lead shortly after, capitalizing on a free kick in the 82nd minute to help secure the win.

Bianca Potesta, Kainani Jacang, and Ocean Rideout recorded Portland State's only three shots of the match, with two of them coming in the first half. Kansas State totaled 18 shots—four on target—and finished with an 11-1 edge in corner kicks.

The Vikings will return home next weekend to host Western Oregon in their home opener on Sunday, Aug. 24 at Hillsboro Stadium (1:00 pm).
