PORTLAND, Ore. — Before either the Philadelphia Eagles or Kansas City Chiefs win Super Bowl LIX,
Addison Capozzi recorded the first victory of the day. At least in the realm of the Portland State track & field program, as she won the women's 800 meters Sunday at the Portland Indoor 2.

Capozzi beat UC Santa Cruz's Evelyn Ruckmann-Barnes to the line by half a second, winning the 800 meters in 2:27.15. Teammate
Taylor Nichols followed in third at 2:29.73.

The wins highlighted a workout day for the Vikings at the Chiles Center. Besides Capozzi and Nichols,
Emily Schmitke and
Talise Wapsheli ran the women's mile, finishing in 5:46.22 and 6:04.75, respectively.

Simon Walsh placed third in his heat of the men's 800 meters while finishing in 2:11.33.
Â
Lyness Ota provided a highlight as he cracked five minutes in the men's mile for the first time with his finish in 4:59.94.
Luis Muradas led the Vikings' three runners in the mile with his finish in 4:34.44, while
Aidan Brown followed in 4:47.21.

Those three also joined Walsh on a 4x400-meter relay team, finishing in 3:57.29.

The Vikings have one more weekend in the indoor regular season next week, when they'll head to the Husky Classic in Seattle, Feb. 14-15. They'll then turn their attention to the Big Sky Indoor Championships in Flagstaff, Ariz., Feb. 27-March 1.
