FLAGSTAFF, Ariz. — The Portland State track & field program only brought nine athletes to the Big Sky Indoor Championships this weekend at the J. Lawrence Walkup Skydome. So, those nine athletes had to bring it if the Vikings were going to make some noise at the conference meet.

Job done
Â
The Vikings set six personal bests out of 11 entries Friday on the second day of the meet, while one of the other five marks was an indoor best.
Â
Dieumerci Migani scored for the Vikings with a fifth-place finish in the long jump. Migani jumped 23-00.00 (7.01m) on his fifth attempt of the day. That represented a PSU best for Migani – though not an indoor or overall best– moving him up to fifth all-time by himself in the indoor long jump.
Â
Migani has now scored at every Big Sky conference meet at which he competed for the Vikings. That includes 11 points at last year's Big Sky Outdoor Championships, which were the most by a Viking men's athlete since Spenser Schmidt also scored 11 points in 2016. With four points Friday, Migani has now scored 18 combined points between the 2024 and 2025 Big Sky Indoor Championships and the 2024 Big Sky Outdoor Championships.
Â
Migani opened the day for the Vikings with a personal best in the prelims of the men's 60 meters. He finished in 6.91 seconds, shaving six-hundredths of a second off his previous best while moving him into a tie for fourth all-time in the event. Migani didn't advance to Saturday's final, however.
Â
Tori Forst did advance to Saturday's final on the women's side of the 60 meters while setting two of the Vikings' six personal bests on the day. Forst finished second in her heat of the 60 meters in 7.54 seconds, advancing to the final despite an unfavorable lane position on the inside.
Â
She shaved nearly two-tenths of a second off her personal best with her finish Friday. She also moved into a tie for seventh all-time in the 60 meters, becoming the first Viking since Nia Powdrell in 2018 to crack the all-time top 10 in the event.
Â
Forst wasn't done, though. She followed up with an overall best in the 200 meters later in the day, finishing in 24.74 seconds. Forst's time beat her outdoor best of 24.85 seconds by more than a tenth of a second, while she shaved more than four-tenths of a second off her indoor best in the 200.
Â
Aida Wheat ran in the same section of the 200 meters as Forst and set an indoor best with her finish in 25.97 seconds. Neither Forst nor Wheat advanced to Saturday's 200-meter final, however.
Â
Wheat also shaved eight-hundredths of a second off her 60-meter personal best with her finish in 7.90 seconds earlier in the day.
Â
Abdinajib Abade set a personal best for the Vikings in the prelims of the men's 800 meters. He finished in 1:54.27, setting an overall best in the 800 by close to a second. Abade's time put him just four-hundredths of a second behind the current No. 10 time in the indoor 800 meters, which Collin Olcott set at 1:54.23 in 2003. He didn't qualify for Saturday's final, however.
Â
The other personal best for the Vikings came from
Noah Meucci in the men's weight throw. Meucci threw 54-01.25 (16.49m) on his first attempt in the competition, adding more than 27 inches to his previous best. Meucci, who moved up to third all-time with Friday's mark, has now bettered his personal best at five of the seven meets in which he's competed in the weight throw this season.
Â
Meucci placed fourth in his flight and 13th overall in the weight throw.
Â
The Vikings will compete in three events Saturday on the final day of the Big Sky Indoor Championships.
Alison Calvin-Stupfel will open the day in the women's high jump (9 a.m. PT / 10 a.m. MT), before Forst competes in the finals of the women's 60 meters (11:40 a.m. PT / 12:40 p.m. MT). Migani and
Edward Niyongere will close out the meet for the Vikings in the men's triple jump (12 p.m. PT / 1 p.m. MT).
