FARMINGTON, Utah – Freshman Hana Abdelhamid of the Portland State women's tennis team had a strong collegiate dual debut this weekend, earning her first career Big Sky Women's Tennis Player of the Week honor, as announced by the conference office on Wednesday.
Abdelhamid helped the Vikings open their dual season 1-1, going undefeated in doubles with partner Scarlett Perkins (2-0) and posting a 1-1 mark in singles play. The Alexandria, Egypt, native clinched the Vikings' victory on Saturday against Montana with a 6-4, 6-4 win over Piper Freeman at line three.
Teaming up with Perkins at No. 2 doubles, the duo impressed in the season opener against the Ducks, notching a 6-3 victory over Oregon's Tilde Jagare and Marjorie Souza. They followed that up with another win on Saturday, cruising past Montana's Freeman and Kelsey Phillips 6-1 at line two.
Abdelhamid and the Vikings will open their 2025 home slate this weekend with an exhibition match against Linfield at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center (2:00 p.m.).
