FARMINGTON, Utah - Freshman
Lorraine Alo had a standout weekend for the Portland State softball team, landing her first-ever Big Sky Player of the Week honor, as announced by the conference on Monday.
Her performance at the plate played a pivotal role in the Vikings' Big Sky opening sweep of preseason favorite Idaho State.
She recorded three multi-hit games during the series, hitting .583 (7-for-12) with a double, home run and a team-high four RBI. The Hawaii native, who started as the designated player over the weekend, led the Vikings with four runs scored, a .917 slugging percentage and ranked second on the team with a .615 on-base percentage. In Saturday's doubleheader, she went a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate in game one before notching a career-high 3 RBI in game two, all while extending her hitting streak to six games.
Alo now leads the Vikings with a team-best .403 batting average, .469 on-base percentage, and .583 slugging percentage on the season.
The nod is the first of her young career as she becomes the first Viking to earn a Player of the Week honor this season.
Allicitie Frost and
Grace Kimball both earned Pitcher of the Week honors for the Vikings last month.
