NEWBERG, Ore. — The Portland State track & field team has its own M&M boys. No, it's not a reincarnated Roger Maris and Mickey Mantle from the 1961 New York Yankees. Rather, it's
Dieumerci Migani and
Noah Meucci. Those two have seemingly set a new top 10 mark every week during the 2024 indoor season, and did so again Saturday while competing at the George Fox Indoor Meet #2.
It's the same location that they both set a top 10 mark two weeks ago at the – you may have guessed it – George Fox Indoor Meet #1.
Migani set his mark Saturday in the long jump, moving into a tie for fifth with the first seven-meter jump of his indoor career. Migani jumped exactly seven meters, in fact, as his opening mark of 22-11.75 (7.00m) held up to win him the competition. Migani now sits tied with Jaron Barrow in the PSU record book indoors.
Migani also set a personal best in the 60 meters, beginning with a time of 7.09 seconds in the prelims, then dropping another hundredth of a second off that with a finish in 7.08 seconds in the finals. Migani's time placed him third overall and put him only six-hundredths of a second from securing another top 10 mark as a Viking, as the current No. 10 time in the 60 meters stands at 7.02 seconds by Josh Cain in 2007.
Meucci, meanwhile, added more than three feet to his top 10 mark in the men's weight throw. Meucci came into the meet ranked seventh all-time at 44-00.75 (13.43m). He increased that mark to 45-00.50 (13.73m) on his third attempt of the competition, but then smashed that with a two-foot improvement on his sixth and final attempt of the day. Meucci's final throw went 47-03.00 (14.40m), moving him up to fifth all-time in the event at Portland State.
Alison Calvin-Stupfel added a third top 10 mark for the Vikings Saturday, as she won the women's high jump with a clearance at 5-04.50 (1.64m). That's an overall best in the high jump for Calvin-Stupfel, and moves her into a tie for ninth all-time at Portland State with Erin Kinney, who set her mark in 2007.
Calvin-Stupfel also doubled back in the women's long jump and added 3.5 inches to her indoor best in the event with a mark of 15-11.75 (4.87m).
Outside of those two,
Karch Kipp made his Viking debut alongside Meucci in the men's shot put. Neither set a personal best in the event, however, as Meucci finished fifth in the competition with a best mark of 43-02.25 (13.16m), while Kipp finished ninth at 38-11.50 (11.87m).
Hunter Leeder also matched Migani with a personal best in the 60 meters, finishing in 7.27 seconds to shave 12 hundredths of a second his previous best.
The Vikings will now wrap up the indoor regular season tomorrow, Sunday, at the Portland Indoor Three. The meet will take place at the University of Portland's Chiles Center, starting at 12 p.m.
