Vikings Battle Weber State to 1-1 Draw

HILLSBORO, Ore – The Portland State women's soccer team once again showed their resilience on Friday afternoon, battling back from an early 1-0 deficit to earn a 1-1 draw against Weber State at Hillsboro Stadium.

The Vikings now hold a 2-6-3 overall record and a 0-1-2 mark in Big Sky play, while the Wildcats moved to 1-8-5 overall and 0-1-1 in conference action.

Portland State dominated both possession and shots, outplaying Weber State for much of the match. However, Weber State took advantage of a momentary lapse just two minutes in, heading home a cross to grab a 1-0 lead. The Vikings tightened up defensively after that,  limiting Weber State to just seven shots the rest of the match.

As they've shown repeatedly this season, the Vikings responded in the second half. Elle Frazier delivered the equalizer just six minutes after the break. The Vikings' leading scorer maneuvered through several Wildcat defenders near the top of the box, eventually finding a lane to net her fourth goal of the season.

Mirroring the physicality of the first half, tensions continued to escalate with the game tied. Overall, the teams combined for 27 fouls, with four yellow cards handed out in the second half alone, all within a 25-minute span. The Vikings created several late-game opportunities, coming inches away from netting the game-winner on multiple occasions but were ultimately unable to convert.

Viking goalkeeper Eden Millan made four crucial saves—two in each half—helping to limit Weber State to just one goal. Outshooting the Wildcats by a significant margin, the Vikings recorded 19 shots, including a season-high 13 on target. They also notched a season-high nine corner kicks, while the Wildcats recorded none. For the third consecutive outing, freshman Aliayha Saldana led the Vikings with five shots, three of which were on goal, while Abi Hoffman closely followed with four shots, all on target.

The Vikings will have another opportunity to secure their first conference win of the season this weekend as they prepare to host Idaho State on Sunday afternoon for a 1 PM matchup at Hillsboro Stadium.
