Late Goal Haunts Vikings in 1-0 Loss at Montana

MISSOULA, Mont. – The Portland State women's soccer team held first-place Montana scoreless for the opening 83 minutes on Sunday but ultimately fell 1-0 after an 84th-minute goal by the Grizzlies.

The goal snapped a 439-minute shutout streak for the Vikings, marking their first loss since September 29. They now hold a record of 4-7-4 overall and 2-2-3 in conference play, while Montana improved to 10-2-4 and 4-0-2 in the Big Sky Conference.

The 439-minute shutout streak, piloted by goalkeeper Eden Millan was the third longest in program history. She was six minutes away from extending that streak to four full games when Montana broke through at the 83:00 mark, shortly after a pair of wide shot attempts and two corner kicks.

The Vikings recorded six shots in the first half, matching the Grizzlies' shot count, but were limited to just three in the second half. Portland State was whistled for a season-high 17 fouls, compared to Montana's six. Individually, freshmen Grace Sarabia and Aliayha Saldana led the Vikings with three shots each, while Abi Hoffman and Lucy Quinn accounted for the other two shots.

Sitting fourth in the Big Sky standings, the Vikings will look to finish their conference slate strong as they prepare to host Sacramento State in their regular-season finale next Sunday, October 27, at noon at Hillsboro Stadium.
