PORTLAND, Ore – The Portland State men's tennis team will begin a nine-match home stand on Friday, Feb. 3 against William Jessup at the Tualatin Hills Tennis Center (10 a.m.).
The Vikings head into the weekend with a 1-3 record after securing their first victory in their home opener on Jan. 27 against Lewis & Clark.
There were many firsts for the Vikings in their 7-0 sweep of the Pioneers on Friday. Six Vikings earned the first doubles wins of their Portland State careers. At the No. 4 spot, Luka Jovanovic earned his first-career collegiate singles victory, while four other Vikings snagged their first wins of the season in singles action. Â
Freshman Gregory Gruenig leads the Vikings with a 2-2 singles record, winning matches over Grand Canyon's Paolo Rosati and Lewis & Clark's Wade McDermott at the No. 5 spot.
At No. 1 doubles, Gruenig and Jan Semerak are 1-1, having two of their first four matches go unfinished. After a 6-1 win over Lewis & Clark on Friday, the duo nearly pulled off a win over Portland's Sema Pankin and Elefttherios Neos before the match was called at 5-4. Â
The Vikings' nine-match home stand will begin Friday and will end on Wednesday, March 15 against North Dakota.Â

William Jessup's men's tennis program is in just its second season, coming off a 1-13 inaugural season in 2022. The Warriors are 0-1 this year after falling 4-3 to Holy Names on Friday, Jan. 27. Friday will mark the first-ever meeting between the Warriors and Vikings.Â
