Box Score HILLSBORO – The Portland State women's soccer team fell 2-0 in its regular-season opener to Seattle on Saturday afternoon at Hillsboro Stadium.
The loss drops the Vikings to 0-1 on the year while the Redhawks improved to 1-1 overall.
A Leahi Manthei goal in the 17th minute gave Seattle the lead after Portland State was unable to capitalize on a pair of early shots.Â
Both squads failed to find the net for the remaining 28 minutes of the first half as Vikings goalkeeper Enya Hernandez tallied three saves to keep the score at 1-0.
Ani Jensen and Abi Hoffman each fired off shots for the Vikings in the second half but were unable to squeeze it past Seattle goalkeeper Lexi Davis.
The score remained at 1-0 until the 81st minute when Redhawks senior Bailey Hall netted the second goal of the day to solidify a 2-0 lead en route to their first victory of the season. Â
Seattle out-shot PSUÂ 18-8Â on the afternoon. Six different Vikings recorded a shot attempt. Hernandez ended the day with six saves while Jensen had a team-high three shots for PSU.Â
The Vikings will return to action at Western Oregon on August 27th in Monmouth, Ore. (2 PM PT).
