Viking Hall of Famer Britney Yada Qualifies For US Women's Open

Portland State Vikings Hall of Famer Britney Yada is going back to the U.S. Women's Open.

The former PSU golf star has earned a spot in this week's national championship played at Olympic Club in San Francisco. Yada earned the spot as a first alternate coming out of the U.S. Open qualifier at Ranch Country Club in Westminster, CO on May 10. Yada shot 70-68=138 for a four-under par score to place third overall. She found out over the weekend that her alternate spot was chosen.

Yada will tee it up at Olympic Club beginning on Thursday at 9:16 a.m. The tournament is televised on Golf Channel and NBC.

This marks the second time that Yada, a native of Hilo, HI, has reached the US Women's Open. She also qualified in 2018 and played at Shoal Creek in Alabama.

Britney Yada did it all as a member of the Portland State Golf Team from 2009-2013. She was the first and only four-time All-Big Sky Conference selection, four-time All-Big Sky Tournament performer, four-time Academic All-Conference honoree and won five Big Sky Player of the Week awards. She won two individual titles during her career, including the 2011 Big Sky Championship. She finished in the top-five in the Big Sky all four seasons and was a member of two Big Sky team champions. By the end of her career, Yada owned virtually every school scoring record.

She was inducted into the Portland State Athletics Hall of Fame in 2018 in her first year of eligibility.

Since graduating Portland State, Yada has played professionally, competing on the LPGA, Symetra and Cactus Tours. She has one victory this season on the Cactus Tour, played mainly throughout Arizona and the southwest. Last year, she led the Cactus Tour money list and recorded five victories in 22 events.
