They have done it again! Senior golfers
Valerie Hernandez and
Jasmine Cabajar have both been named All-Big Sky Conference for the 2020-21 season. Making it all the more special, each have now won honors five times.
Â
Cabajar, a native of Wailuku, HI, was named second team All-Big Sky Conference after posting a 75.00 scoring average this spring. Hernandez, a native of Bogota, Colombia, was named third team All-Big Sky with a 75.08 scoring average. Both have benefited from the additional year of eligibility they were granted (as were all student-athletes) by the NCAA due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Both were seniors in 2019-20, but saw their seasons cut short.
Â
Both freshmen in 2016-17, Hernandez (2nd team/3rd team/3rd team/2nd team/3rd team All-Big Sky in five seasons) and Cabajar (Honorable Mention/Honorable Mention/2nd team/2nd team/2nd team All-Big Sky in five seasons) have proven to be the best recruiting class ever by Head Coach
Kailin Downs and in the history of the program. They rank 1-2 in career rounds played (Cabajar 128/Hernandez 124) at Portland State having passed Hall of Famer
Britney Yada in recent weeks. Hernandez is tied for second all-time in scoring average (75.03), while Cabajar ranks fourth (75.06). Needless to say they rank high on all of PSU's scoring charts.Â
Â
The two Viking seniors will be leading Portland State once again when they open Big Sky Conference Championship Tournament play next week. PSU hosts the tournament for the first time in history, Monday through Wednesday, at Arrowhead Golf Club in Molalla. Tee times begin at 8 a.m. each day. Spectators will be allowed for the championship and can walk the course.
