With the absence of fall sports in 2020, GoViks.com is going to look back at some great moments in the history of Viking fall sports (volleyball, soccer, football, cross country, golf) on specific dates. This is not an exhaustive list, and not every date is covered, however as the fall progresses, the rich history of Viking Athletics will be remembered.
Post Falls, ID (Sept. 23, 2008) - Sophomore Stephanie Johns, playing in just her second tournament as a Viking, posted a two-under par 70 in the final round to capture the individual title and lead Portland State to the team victory at the Bulldog and Eagle Invitational.
Johns shot 77-78-70=225 over the two-day event to win medalist honors. She was seven shots off the lead heading into the final round, but posted one of the best single-round scores in school history (to date).
Portland State shot 308-311-302=921 at The Links Golf Club in winning its first tournament of the season. The Vikings beat runner-up Cal Poly by six shots, extending their three-shot lead after two rounds of play. PSU also defeated four other Big Sky Conference teams competing in the 14-team field.
Junior Danielle Ranallo had an outstanding tournament for PSU as well, tying for second place - her first-ever top 10 finish in three seasons as a Viking. Ranallo came in three shots behind her teammate at 74-76-78=228.Â
Justin Hix tied for 13th among the 78 players competing (233). Alexia Brown tied for 21st (235) and Aubrey Vaughn was 61st (251).
