THE OPENING TIP
A welcome return home for the Portland State Vikings comes this Saturday when they host the Idaho State Bengals at Viking Pavilion. PSU has played the last four games on the road and will not have played at home for nearly three weeks.

It will be a nice stop off for the Vikings, and an important one. After ISU, Portland State hosts Weber State next Monday. Then back on the road for four of the next five games. The payoff does not begin for PSU until Feb. 15, when the Vikings start a stretch of five of the last seven games at home.

PSU (8-10, 2-4) took an 85-70 loss at defending Big Sky Champion Montana on Monday. It was a close game until the final eight minutes when the Griz pulled away and handed the Vikings their largest margin of loss for the season. Still, PSU split the road trip to the Treasure State. The Vikings pulled out a gutty, 77-76 victory at MSU last Saturday.

When PSU hosts Idaho State it hopes to be closer to its full complement of players. The Vikings missed SR G Matt Hauser the last two games as he is recovering from an ankle sprain. His status remains uncertain. They also were without the services of SR C Sal Nuhu, who came down with an illness prior to the Montana game. It is hoped he will be able to return this weekend.

JR G Holland Woods keeps rolling along no matter the circumstances. He had a big night at Montana State with a career-high 30 points, six rebounds and six assists. Woods hit the game-winner with 2.4 seconds left. And, with three steals in that game he became PSU's all-time leader in that category (now 132), adding to his school record for assists (453).

Portland State will be facing Idaho State for the first time this season when they meet at Viking Pavilion. The Bengals are 6-8 overall, but currently 3-2 and tied for fourth in the Big Sky Conference. The teams split the season series last year.

ISU will host a game with Weber State on Thursday prior to facing the Vikings.

Portland State is 4-2 at home this season. The Bengals have a 2-6 road record under first-year Head Coach Ryan Looney.

Saturday's game will tip off at 7:05 p.m. at Viking Pavilion. A Pluto TV live stream is available on Channel 532, www.pluto.tv and www.WatchBigSky.com. Live statistics can be found at www.ViksLive.com.

COMING UP
The Vikings host Weber State on Monday night, then go on the road for four of the following five games.

SUSTAINABLE AND RECYCLABLE VIKING QUICK NOTES

Home Court(s)
• Portland State opened the Viking Pavilion at the Peter W. Stott Center in 2018-19. The Stoller Family Court is PSU's fifth home court since joining the Big Sky Conference in 1996-97. Previously, the main home court was the old Peter W. Stott Center. However, the Vikings also used the Rose Garden (now Moda Center) and Memorial Coliseum occasionally over the years. In 2017-18, PSU used Lewis & Clark College's Pamplin Sports Center as a home court while the Viking Pavilion was being completed. Here is the breakdown:
  - Viking Pavilion - 22 games, 16-6, .727
  - Peter W. Stott Center - 233 games, 168-65, .721
  - Rose Garden (Moda Center) - 28 games, 19-9, .679
  - Memorial Coliseum - 19 games, 13-6, .684
  - Lewis and Clark (2017-18) - 12 games, 7-5, .583
  - 24th season - 313 games, 223-91 at home overall, .710
• Portland State has lost only 11 non-conference home games in the last 13 seasons (56-11). PSU is 29-11 against Division I schools, and 27-0 against lower division schools over that span.
Big Sky Battles
• Portland State is 198-212 all-time in all Big Sky Conference games, including the Big Sky Tournament (12-14).
• PSU is 129-66 in home games, 63-135 in road games and 6-11 in neutral-site games.

WHO IS HOT
• JR G Holland Woods scored a career-high 30 points - the most by a Viking in 67 games - in the win over Montana State. He made 11-20 shots, 4-9 three-pointers and 4-5 free throws. His runner in the lane with 2.4 seconds left gave the Vikings a 77-76 win. Woods also made three steals to take over the PSU career record in that category (129)... Woods has nine games of 20+ points this season... he leads the team in scoring at 18.3 points per game and averages 20.0 in Big Sky games.
• SR F Rashaad Goolsby had his second double-double of the season at Montana with 13 points and 11 rebounds... Goolsby has averaged 7.2 points, 9.6 rebounds and blocked 11 shots in his nine starts.
• SR G Lamar Hamrick is averaging 11.0 points off the bench in Big Sky games... Hamrick is shooting a team-best .524 from the field, .561 in Big Sky games.
• PSU leads the Big Sky Conference and and the nation in offensive rebounding (15.3 per game)... the Vikings average 14.3 second-chance points per game.

WHO IS NOT

• Opponents are shooting .509 from the field against the Vikings in league games.
• SR G Matt Hauser missed the last two games with an ankle sprain.

TRENDING
• Portland State is 0-7 when trailing at halftime, but 8-3 when tied or ahead at the break.
• PSU has out-rebounded 11 of 18 opponents, and that is important. The Vikings are 7-4 when they get more boards, 1-6 when they don't.
• Shooting is always the most important factor: the Vikings have not lost when shooting a higher percentage from the field than their opponent (5-0).
• Four of Portland State's six Big Sky Conference games have been decided by four points or less.

INJURY ANGST
Portland State has had bad luck with injuries so far this season. SR G Matt Hauser (ankle sprain) has become the third starter to be sidelined.
• Hauser has missed two games with an ankle sprain.
• SR C Sal Nuhu missed six games early this season with an ankle sprain, and a seventh due to illness.
• SR F Alonzo Walker missed three games with a foot injury.
• SR G Lamar Hamrick has missed four games with thumb and back injuries.
• PSU has lost a total of 16 player games to injury, 12 to starters.
• Nine different players have started games this season, eight have started three or more.

BOO BOO IS REWRITING THE RECORD BOOK
Portland State point guard Holland "Boo Boo" Woods added a second Portland State career record to his resume in the Vikings' win at Montana State (1/11) on a night where, appropriately enough, he scored a career-high 30 points and hit the game-winning shot.

Woods now holds career records for steals and assists at Portland State. He set the assist mark on Dec. 28 against Northern Colorado.

In addition, he became the 19th Viking in history to pass 1,000 career points. He now has 1,152 points to rank 10th all-time. Woods has scored more points than any Viking in the past 15 years.
