RIVERSIDE, Calif. – After being unavailable Friday due to an illness, junior
Katie Schroeder came out Saturday and provided the quality start the Vikings needed as they took down the UNLV Rebels, 5-3, at the Amy S. Harrison Classic in Riverside, Calif.Â

Despite not feeling 100-percent, and throwing a few miles per hour slower than normal, Schroeder threw a complete game for the Vikings in the win, her second of the season. She allowed just three runs, two earned, on eight hits.Â

The Portland State offense provided the run support that Schroeder needed with five runs against the Rebels after being shut out by them less than 24 hours prior.Â

Portland State was first to the scoreboard with three runs in the top of the third inning.
Ashley Doyle reached via catcher's interference with one out to get things going.
Sala Pedebone and
Riley Casper loaded the bases with back-to-back singles.
Darian Lindsey extended her hitting streak to 11 games with an RBI single to right field to bring in the game's first run.Â

Marissa Bruno worked a five-pitch walk to bring in a second run. A groundout on by
Alexxis Ponce brought in the third run of the inning. Pedebone drove in a run with a single up the middle in the top of the third to make it a 4-0 game.Â

UNLV finally broke through on the scoreboard with an unearned run in the bottom of the third. The Rebels added another run in the fourth to cut the Vikings' lead to two.Â

After a scoreless fifth, Casper launched her first home run of the season, a solo shot to left field, to put the Vikings up 5-2. UNLV plated a run in the bottom half of the inning but that would be is as Schroeder shut down the Rebels to secure the 5-3 win.Â

Pedebone posed her second multi-hit game of the year, going 2-for-3 with a run scored and an RBI. Casper went 2-for-3 with two runs scored and her first home run of the year.Â

The Vikings close out the weekend Sunday with a pair of games. They open the day with against Maryland at 9 a.m. PT before facing host UC Riverside at 2 pm.Â
