MOSCOW, Idaho —
Sophomores Kristen O'Handley and Natalie Cummings had their version of a buddy-cop movie Saturday, as they went 1-2 in the 60 and 200 meters at the Lauren McCluskey Memorial Open and Multi Events, hosted by the University of Idaho, in the Kibbie Dome.

O'Handley won the finals of the 60 meters in 7.80 seconds, with Cummings right behind in 7.83 seconds. Cummings also finished with the best time in the prelims with her finish in 7.84 seconds, with O'Handley one-hundredth of a second behind in 7.85 seconds. Cummings' time in the prelims shaved .13 seconds off her best time as a freshman, and she knocked another one-hundredth of a second off of that with her finish in the finals.

O'Handley returned to the track to win the 200 meters in 25.39 seconds later in the day, with Cummings again finishing right behind in the same heat in 25.77 seconds.

The two first-place finishes for O'Handley came a day after she placed second in the pentathlon, making her the likely athlete of the meet between all of her high finishes. O'Handley placed second with a new personal-best point total of 3,529 in the pentathlon – three points higher than her total at the Big Sky Indoor Championships as a freshman.

O'Handley, who ranks fifth all time in the pentathlon at Portland State, set a personal best in only one of the five events Friday, but was just off her PBs in the other four events. O'Handley's one personal best Friday was a big one, as she knocked close to five seconds off her personal best in the 800 meters with her finish in 2:24.90. That's the fastest 800-meter time by a Viking within a pentathlon since Ashley Quay ran the 800 meters in 2:24.96 during a pentathlon in 2005.

Sophomore Braden Masanga joined O'Handley in the multi-events at the meet, as he completed his first heptathlon while finishing 14th overall with 3,307 points. Masanga's total would have been better, but he no-heighted in the pole vault, which had been his primary event as a freshman.

Redshirt senior Donté Robinson – the defending Big Sky champion in the heptathlon – did not compete in a multi-event at the meet, and instead focused on the pole vault. Robinson set a new personal best while placing third in the event with his clearance of 14-09.00 (4.50m) –a foot better than his old best of 13-09.00.

Robinson's clearance moved him up to fifth all time in the indoor pole vault at Portland State, while teammate Griffin Johnson moved into a tie for 10th all time while setting his own indoor personal best with a final clearance at 12-09.50 (3.90m).

Junior Angela Mumford also moved into an all-time top 10 Saturday, as she placed third in the shot put with a personal-best throw of 42-10.75 (13.07m). Mumford's throw beat her old indoor personal best by more than four feet, and moved her into sixth place all time in the indoor shot put at Portland State.

Sophomore Ceil Dunleavy moved into a tie for ninth place all time in the indoor high jump, as she and fellow sophomore Taylor Elliott posted final clearances at 5-04.25 (1.63m). Elliott placed second in the high jump due to fewer total misses, while Dunleavy took third.

Freshman Linnaea Kavulich added another event winner for the Vikings as she blew away the field in the women's mile while winning by more than six seconds in 5:11.55. Kavulich's time marked the best indoor mile time by a freshman women's runner for the Vikings since current redshirt junior Kaila Gibson finished in 5:05.60 in 2016.

Gibson made her own push for a win in the women's 3,000 meters, but ended up second in 10:09.27. Three more Vikings followed Gibson in the 3k, as Sarah Medved (10:22.79), Phoebe Jacques (10:40.15) and Delaney White (10:53.33) placed third, fourth and fifth, respectively. Sophomore Alana Baldwin-Joiner won the first section of the women's 3,000 meters and finished seventh overall in 11:02.13, exactly 10 seconds faster than her best 3k time as a freshman.

The Vikings also got podium finishes out of sophomore Alexis Buckhaults in the women's 60-meter hurdles (second in 9.15 seconds) and freshman Chase Lovercheck in the men's 800 meters (third in 1:57.42). Lovercheck's time in the 800 meters marked the fastest time by a Viking freshman men's runner in the event since Nathan Fleck finished in 1:54.88 in 2014.

Sophomore Zack Davis got screwed out of a chance for his own podium finish, as he missed the finals of the 60 meters despite posting the second fastest time in the prelims. Davis finished the 60 prelims in 7.06 seconds, but missed the finals as only the top finisher in each heat qualified. Davis placed second in his heat, behind the fastest overall qualifier in Central Washington's Bobby Widmar, who finished in 7.00 seconds.

The Vikings have a week off from competition next week, before returning to action at the UW Invitational in Seattle, Wash., Jan. 25-26.
