14.0 k/s | 13.3 a/s | 16.6 d/s | 2.2 b/s (all stats from 2017)

Mikaelyn Sych. The Vikings went with youth to replace Clark and Bojanic in their exhibition match against Central Washington Monday, as sophomore
Maddy Reeb and freshman

The Vikings still have the benefit of experience despite the youth at setter and libero, however, with five seniors on the team – four of whom have been in the program since freshman. Seniors

LONG BEACH STATE 49ERS (10-19 in 2017)
11.5 k/s | 10.7 a/s | 13.4 d/s | 2.3 b/s (all stats from 2017)
Notable: The 49ers enter their second year under head coach Joy McKienzie-Fuerbringer after going 10-19 in 2017. The 49ers return nine letterwinners from that team, and brought in seven newcomers to join them. The 49ers lost their starting setter in Alexis Patterson off last year's team, but return sophomore setter Mina Andjelkovic, who averaged 4.14 assists per set while playing in 43 sets as a freshman. The 49ers return starting libero Hailey Harward, who averaged 3.65 digs per set as a freshman, as well as their leading attacker Megan Kruidhof, who averaged 3.18 kills per set as a junior. Kruidhof was the only 49er to average more than two kills per set last season. The 49ers had three players average at around one block per set last season and return all three in Kjersti Norveel (1.07 b/s in 2017), YiZhi Xue (1.02 b/s in 2017) and Emma Kirst (0.93 b/s in 2017). The 49ers have a relatively young team with 11 underclassmen among their 17 players.
Â
BOISE STATE BRONCOS (17-14 in 2017)
13.9 k/s | 13.1 a/s | 14.8 d/s | 2.2 b/s (all stats from 2017)

Nobley was named an AVCA Honorable Mention All-American for the third time in her career after the season, and was a three-time AVCA All-Region selection, and the Mountain West Player of the Year in 2016. Additionally, Nobley graduated with the Boise State and Mountain West Conference career records for total kills (1,925), kills per set (4.53), total attacks (4,953), total points (2,157.0) and points per set (5.08). The Broncos added seven freshmen over the offseason, and have nine underclassmen among their 15 players.

WILSON GOING FOR HISTORY AS A SENIOR
Senior middle blocker
Katy Wilson broke the single-season Division I school record for hitting percentage with a .373 mark last season – three points ahead of her teammate
Mikaelyn Sych, who finished with the No. 2 mark all-time in Division I at .370. Wilson has the chance to end her career with the top Division I hitting percentage in program history if things go well during her senior season. Wilson's current career hitting percentage of .324 ranks 22 points higher than the current Division I career record for hitting percentage, which Lana Zielke set at .302 from 2008-10. Wilson's .324 career hitting percentage would also rank third all-time for all years since 1982 if the season ended today. Kristi Scott currently holds the top career hitting percentage since 1982, as she hit .341 when the Vikings were a Division II program from 1990-91. Wilson also ranks tied for eighth all time in Division I career solo blocks with 39 in her career. She'll move ahead of Stacy Ball (1999-2002) and Zielke with her first solo block of the season. Michelle Segun holds the Division I career record with 89 solo blocks from 2004-07.

A FRESHMAN LIBERO
Freshman
Mackenzie Sullivan started at libero for the Vikings in their exhibition match against Central Washington Monday. The Vikings have had good luck with freshman defensive specialists of late as the last two to start as freshmen – Kasimira Clark and
Tasha Bojanic –ended up being named Big Sky Libero of the Year at some point in their careers. Sullivan could join them, after she was a three-time first-team all-league selection at El Dorado High School in Placentia, Calif. Sullivan set the school record for most varsity sport letters at El Dorado High School while lettering in volleyball (4x), track (4x), soccer (2x), water polo (1x) and basketball (1x).
Â
SETTLING ON A SETTER
The Vikings needed to replace All-Big Sky first-team setter
Erin Clark at the start of the season, and sophomore
Maddy Reeb earned the spot in the Vikings' exhibition match against Central Washington Monday. Reeb played the whole match at setter for the Vikings, and took advantage of the opportunity with a double-double with 37 assists and 21 digs. No Viking setter had ever finished with more than 30 assists and 20 digs in a match since former Big Sky MVP
Garyn Schlatter had 41 assists and 25 digs in a five-set match against Northern Colorado on Nov. 10, 2012.
