U.S. AIR FORCE ACADEMY, Colo. — The Portland State women's tennis team took a step out and a step up from Big Sky competition Saturday, losing 7-0 to Air Force in a match played at over 7,000 feet of elevation at Air Force's Cadet Gymnasium Tennis Courts.
 
The Falcons (14-7) beat the Vikings (2-11) in straight sets in all six singles matches, and took the doubles point from the Vikings with wins at lines one and two in doubles, as well.
 
The Vikings pulled out their lone victory in the match at line three in doubles, where freshman Sally Partington and senior Sabina-Elena Preda beat Air Force's Lily Forlini and Meredith Laskey, 7-5. Partington and Preda have won two matches in a row, after playing their first match together in the Vikings' match against Montana on March 26.
 
Junior Siena Peri, meanwhile, was the lone Viking to get close to a set win against the Falcons in singles, as she rebounded from a 6-0 loss to Air Force's Chloe Forlini to force a second-set tiebreaker at line one. Forlini, the seventh-ranked player in the ITA Mountain region, pulled out the tiebreaker, however, giving her a 6-0, 7-6 win at the top of the singles lineup.
 
Despite the loss, the Vikings' match against the Falcons served a strong purpose for the Vikings, who now have a match at elevation under their belt before they face Northern Colorado in a Big Sky match Sunday. The Vikings descend in elevation to play the Bears, too, as they'll faced Northern Colorado at 4,600 feet, 2,400 feet lower in elevation than they played Saturday.
 
The Vikings and Bears will square off at 10 a.m. (MT) Sunday.
 
Match Notes: The Vikings fell to 0-3 all-time against Air Force with Saturday's loss…With their loss Saturday, Peri and senior Tracy Dong will have to wait at least one more match to set the new career record for wins at No. 1 doubles by a team…Peri will also set the record for individual wins at No. 1 doubles with her next win at the position.
