For the first time ever, the Portland State Cheerleaders embarked on a trip to Daytona Beach, FL to compete in the National Cheerleaders Association (NCA) Collegiate National Championships. With hundreds of teams and thousands of competitors, this is one of only two national championships in the country.
In the preliminary performance, the PSU cheerleaders received a score of 85.43, which landed them in 5
th place, just one placement shy of making it to the finals round.
Teams that don't initially make it to the finals round get another chance to compete in what is called the Challenge Cup, where the winner will earn a place in the finals competition. Although the team did make improvements to their performance, receiving a score of 87.13, they were barely edged out by Western Carolina.
The PSU cheerleaders were very excited to become the only university in Oregon to compete in a national cheerleading competition and have set a goal to advance straight to finals in the 2016 competition!
