CeCelia Jackson crushed the school record in the 400-meter hurdles, and qualified for the finals of both hurdle events as she and fellow freshman
Whitney Diggs competed in the first day of the USATF Junior Outdoor Championships Saturday at Hayward Field.

Jackson finished the women's 400-meter hurdles in 59.53 seconds, breaking Ashley Frazier's 2012 record of 1:01.52 by nearly two full seconds. Jackson had ranked just behind Frazier at second all-time in the 400-meter hurdles going into the meet, but crushed her old personal best of 1:01.57 at the national meet.

Jackson's time qualified her for the finals of the 400-meter hurdles, which will be run at 5:10 p.m. Sunday. Jackson qualified for the final on time after finishing fourth in the second heat of the event.

Jackson also qualified for the finals of the women's 100-meter hurdles while placing second in the second heat of the first round Saturday. Jackson ran the 100-meter hurdles in a wind-aided 13.68 seconds, giving her the fourth fastest time in qualifying going into the finals.

Jackson will run in the finals of the 100-meter hurdles at 4:15 p.m. Sunday.

Additionally, Diggs qualified for the finals of the women's 400 meters with her time of 55.14 seconds in the second heat of the first round. Diggs finished third in the second heat, behind the two auto qualifiers, but made it through as the last time qualifier by just three-hundredths of a second.

Diggs will run in the finals of the women's 400 meters at 3:50 p.m. Sunday.
