PORTLAND, Ore. — Making up a match that was postponed last week, the Portland State men's tennis team fell 0-7 to Montana State at the Peter W. Stott Center.

The Vikings (1-9, 0-3 Big Sky) were originally scheduled to play the Bobcats (5-2, 2-0 Big Sky) in Bozeman, Mont., last weekend, but had the match postponed due to winter weather in the area. The match was then moved to Portland since Montana State was scheduled to play Seattle in Eugene, Ore., later this weekend.

The repositioning of the match did not faze the Bobcats, however, as they swept the Vikings in singles and doubles.

Despite the sweep, the Vikings played the Bobcats tight in all three doubles matches, as all three were decided by 8-6 scores. MSU's Diego Campos and Markus Schleuter beat junior Brent Wheeler and sophomore Ian Risenhoover 8-6 at No. 1 doubles, Niklas Brandes and Harry James beat junior Alec Marx and freshman Kacper Stelmaszak 8-6 at No. 2 and Kenny Dodd and Javier Martin Morillas beat sophomores Wil Cochrane and Nate Chart 8-6 at No. 3.

Wheeler also gave Brandes a tight match at No. 1 singles, as he took the second set 6-4 to level the match at a set apiece. Brandes rallied in the third set, however, beating Wheeler 6-1 in the set to take the match 6-2, 4-6, 6-1.

Cochrane played a tight second set against Schleuter at No. 3 singles as well, taking him to a set tiebreaker. Schleuter came through to win the tiebreaker 7-3, however, giving him the match, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).

The Bobcats took the other four singles matches in straight sets, starting with Martin Morillas' 6-1, 6-3 win over Stelmaszak at No. 2. Outside of that, Campos beat Marx 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4, James beat Risenhoover 6-2, 6-4 at No. 5 and Dodd beat Chart 6-2, 6-1 at No. 6.

The Vikings return to action Sunday, March 9, when they travel for a road match against Sacramento State. The match will begin at 10 a.m. (PT).
