Men’s Tennis Handles George Fox, 6-1


VANCOUVER, Wash. – The Portland State men's tennis team got back on the winning track on Saturday, defeating George Fox, 6-1 at Club Green Meadows, on Saturday afternoon. The Viks went 3-0 in doubles and 5-1 in singles to secure their third victory of the season.
 
In doubles play the team of Stratton Gilmore and Lukas Kortus tallied the first victory, downing Preston Mann and Mitchell Milton, 8-2.
 
Abhinav Mishra and Antoine Bechmann followed suit defeating Shawn Aldrich and Chris Lilley, 8-5, to make it 2-0 in the doubles point.
 
Connor Gilmore and Ian Risenhoover completed the sweep with a win against Peter Brown and Justin McClain, 8-4, giving the Viks the undisputed doubles point.
 
In singles play Stratton Gilmore was once again the first player to get on the board with a victory, defeating Aldrich from the No 2 spot, 6-0, 6-2, putting PSU up 2-0.
 
His brother Connor Gilmore was next, making short work of Mann from the No. 3 spot, 6-1, 6-0.
 
Bechmann defeated McClain, 6-2, 6-1, from spot No. 1 to make clinch the match for the Viks.
 
Despite having officially lost the contest, Lilley put up a good fight against Mishra at the No. 3 spot and recorded the Burins only point of the evening, winning 2-6, 6-4, 1-0 (10-7).
 
Kortus and Brent Wheeler were the final PSU competitors to tally wins, downing Mitchell and Brown, 6-2, 6-2, and 6-3, 6-0, respectively.
 
The Viks will be back in action to close out its weekend slate against Lewis & Clark at Club Green Meadows on Sunday afternoon. The match is scheduled for 1 p.m.
