Keifer Finishes Fifth in Heptathlon at Big Sky Championship

BOZEMAN, Mont. – Senior Mandy Keifer finished fifth overall in the women's heptathlon at the 2012 Big Sky Outdoor Track & Field Championship Thursday in Bozeman, Mont. She finished with a career-best 4,842 points, which is the fifth best mark in Portland State history.
 
Keifer started the day with the long jump and finished fifth with a mark of 17-04.00 (5.28m), which is also a personal best, earning her 637 points in the event.
 
She then finished third in the javelin throw with a mark of 120-00 (36.59m) adding another 602 points to her running total. She then picked up another 722 points in the 800-meters with a personal-best time of 2:27.72 to wrap up competition in the heptathlon.
 
Her fifth place finish earns the Vikings four points towards the women's overall championship score. The rest of the Portland State championship qualifiers will be in action on Friday with field events starting at 10:30 a.m. PDT with running events starting at 3:30 p.m.
