PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State track & field teams continue their pursuit of an outdoor Big Sky Championship this Friday and Saturday, March 30-31, at the Willamette Invitational at the Charles Bowles Track in Salem, Ore. and hosted by Willamette University.
 
MEET INFORMATION:
The 1,500-meters, steeplechases, 5,000-meters, 10,000-meters, as well as the hammer throw and pole vault events will be contested on Friday, March 30 starting at 3 p.m. PDT with the men's hammer throw. The rest of the events will begin at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
 
LAST YEAR AT WILLAMETTE INVITATIONAL:
Amber Rozicha took home the event win in the 5,000-meters with a personal-best time of 17:51.14 for her first career outdoor track win. The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Geronne Black, Karene King, Joenisha Vinson and Anaiah Rhodes ran a track best time of 46.20 to take the event. Dominique Maloney made her Portland State debut after transferring from Butler Community College in Kansas while Allison Burkett qualified for the Big Sky Outdoor Championship in the javelin with a then-personal-best distance of 133-7 (40.71m).
 
LAST TIME OUT:
The Vikings were last in competition At the Oregon Preview at Historic Heyward Field in Eugene, Ore. where they started the outdoor season looking like they were in mid-season form. Geronne Black won the 100-meter dash for the third consecutive year at the Preview and set the meet record for the event with a time of 11.72, which leads the Big Sky Conference. John Lawrence set the Portland State record for the 2,000-meter steeplechase with a time of 5:56.64.
 
Black, along with six others, qualified for the 2012 Big Sky Conference Outdoor Track & Field Championship in just the first meet of the outdoor season. Black holds the conference mark for the 100-meters while the 4x100-meter relay team of P'Lar Dorsett, Sierra Brooks, Anaiah Rhodes and Black posted a qualifying mark of 46.47 to lead the conference.
 
Sean Mackelvie threw a Big Sky leading mark of 201-11 (61.54m) in the javelin throw to finish sixth at the Preview and is the only male student-athlete on the team to have a championship qualifying mark at this point in the season.

Eight Vikings have already qualified for the Big Sky Outdoor Championships, May 9-12, in Bozeman, Mont. Listed below are the qualifiers and their events.

NEXT UP:
Following this weekend in Salem the Vikings head to the Sacramento, Clif. for the MONDO Invitational April 12-14. The Vikings have historically done well at the invitational and last year was no different with the women's 4x400-meter relay team breaking the school record and the women's 4x100-meter relay team setting the meet record.
