Vikings Look to Continue Winning Ways in Montana

PORTLAND, Ore. – The Portland State men's tennis team looks to continue its winning ways as it heads to Bozeman, Mont. for a non-conference dual with Montana State Billings on Saturday and a conference dual with Montana State on Sunday. Both duals will be held at the Bobcat-Anderson Tennis Center.

The Vikings are coming off their second dual win of the season over George Fox University last weekend. The Vikings won the doubles point for the first time this season by sweeping all three doubles matches and then finished out the dual sweep by taking all six singles matches. Junior Zach Lubek picked up his first singles match win of the season.

Portland State (2-7 overall, 0-3 Big Sky Conference) will take on the Yellowjackets who come into play on Saturday with a 0-5 overall record. They have come close in two duals losing by only one point in each.

The Vikings then take on the Bobcats (3-6, 0-0) on Sunday in the second meeting of the season between the two teams. The Bobcats took the first meeting by a score of 6-1 at Club Green Meadows earlier in the season.

Redshirt sophomore Roman Margoulis picked up the only point for the Vikings in the first meeting though several matches were highly contested. The Vikings picked up one doubles match and were one break away from potentially picking up another doubles win to take the doubles point.

After Margoulis' win, three of the five other singles matches went to a decisive third set but the Vikings just could not pull out any more wins. Junior Mitch Somach was unavailable for the first meeting and should help bring depth to the Vikings lineup this weekend in Bozeman.

Following this weekend in Bozeman, Portland State will stay in Portland and play at cross-town rival the University of Portland on March 10 and then host Weber State in a Big Sky Conference matchup on March 11 at 12 p.m. PT at Club Green Meadows in Vancouver, Wash.
