MORAGA, Calif. – Ten different Portland State players recorded a hit and the Vikings wrapped out 18 total in a 8-3 victory over Santa Clara on Friday at the PCSC Crossover Tournament hosted by Saint Mary's.
Karmen Holladay and
Sadie Lopez each had three hits to pace the Vikings, who have now won back-to-back games for the first time this year. PSU upped its record to 5-6, while Santa Clara fell to 1-12.
Holladay (1-3) also got her first victory of the season in the circle, starting and lasting four innings. She gave up six hits and three runs, only one of which was earned, while walking one and striking out one.
Portland State got right to work to start the game, pushing across a run in the top of the first on four hits, including an RBI-single by
Crysta Conn. The damage could have been worse, but they left the bases loaded.
Two innings later, the Vikings scored twice more.
Brittany Hendrickson drew a leadoff walk and came home on a double to left field by Holladay, before pinch runner
Kajsa Sporseen scored two batters later on
Alexa Morales' single.
The Broncos answered with a pair of unearned runs in the bottom half of the frame as a Viking error extended the inning.
Conn knocked in another run in the fourth, before Hendrickson drove in a pair of runs in the fifth to make it 6-3. PSU scored again in the sixth on a RBI-double by Lopez and then in the seventh when Conn drove home
Becca Bliss with a sacrifice flyout to left field.
Bliss, Conn, Morales and
Jenna Krogh each had two hits for Portland State. Conn finished with three RBIs, while Bliss led all players with three runs scored.
Santa Clara, which finished with seven hits, was led by Jamie Wallis and Stephanie Fisher, both of which had two hits.
Briana Rios fell to 0-3 for the Broncos after allowing three earned runs on six hits over the first two innings.
