PSU tallied a team-season best 14 service aces in the match, led by Patton's six, surpassing their previous high of 10 against Northern Arizona on Sept. 27. The Vikings also added 10 blocks in the match led by
Garyn Schlatter who recorded a career-best two solo blocks and added three blocking assists.
HISTORIC OPEN: The Vikings started the conference season 8-0 for the first time since making the move to the NCAA Division I level and joining the Big Sky in 1996. The last time the Vikings started 8-0 was in 1995, their last season at the Division II level, when they started 12-0 on their way to a 13-1 record as a member of the Pacific West Conference. The Vikings' eight-match winning streak matched the fourth longest winning streak during the Vikings' Division I era (1996-present).
SCOUTING EASTERN WASHINGTON: Eastern Washington comes into play this weekend as the only winless team in the conference at 0-21 overall and 0-10 in Big Sky play. The Eagles have had injury problems this season with five of their nine returning letterwinners missing time. Every player on the roster has played in at least one set while 13 players have made at least one start.
EWU is at the bottom, or near the bottom, of the Big Sky in every statistical category. The Eagles are 10th in hitting percentage with a mark of .136 while their opponents are hitting .232. They have the fewest assists and fewest kills (795). Eastern Washington has won nine sets over the course of their 21 matches this season and have only been to five sets twice, once at Montana State (9/20) and again against Southern Utah (9/27).
SERIES WITH EASTERN WASHINGTON: The Vikings took the previous meeting this season in three sets by scores of 27-25, 25-17, and 25-17. The Vikings have won the last eight meetings but the Eagles hold the all-time series record at 26-17. The Eagles also hold the Big Sky advantage 23-10.
SCOUTING SACRAMENTO STATE: Sacramento State finds itself 7-12 overall and 3-7 in conference play. However, the Hornets have won two of their last three Big Sky matches with four-set wins against Weber State and at Montana State. The Vikings took the first two sets before the Hornets came back with two straight wins to force the fifth set, which the Vikings won 16-14. The Vikings have won three straight. Sacramento State leads the all-time series 36-19 and is 12-10 in Portland.

Dominika Kristinikova tallied five against Weber State on Sept. 17, 2011. Clark is third in the Big Sky with 0.38 aces per set while the Vikings are fourth with 1.28 aces per set as a team.
ACES PART DEUX: Portland State improved its season best in service aces by posting a conference-best 14 service aces in a three-set sweep of Weber State (10/13). The Vikings recorded eight aces in the second set alone on their way to the season high.
Kaeli Patton tallied a career-high six aces, which is the first time a Viking has tallied six or more aces since Whitney Phillips tallied six at Northern Arizona (10/16/10).

THE MAN IN CHARGE: In his sixth season as the head coach,
Michael Seemann has compiled a 114-55 overall mark and 73-17 Big Sky record during his time on the Park Blocks. He has led the Vikings to three Big Sky Conference regular season titles (2007, 2009 and 2010), and a pair of conference tournament titles (2008 and 2010).
His Viking squads have been particularly impressive at the Peter W. Stott Center, going 52-11. The 2010 Big Sky Coach of the Year, Seemann has watched his players be named all-conference 18 times, including eight first team selections. In 2009, Nique Fradella was named Big Sky MVP, and in 2010 it was Whitney Phillips who was tabbed at the league's top player.
Seemann spent two years as an assistant under Jeff Mozzochi before taking the reigns; he was a big part of the Vikings' turnaround in 2005. Since he has been a part of the program, PSU has gone 154-71. PSU players have also excelled in the classroom over the past five years, with 39 players being named to the Big Sky Fall All-Academic Team, including a school record 10 in 2010.

When they get outhit, the Vikings are 5-47, including 1-13 last season and 2-7 this season.
